The company鈥檚 pace is relentless, a constant cycle of iteration, problem-solving, and reinvention. So when Tesla recruiters and engineers visited Kettering University, they weren鈥檛 just looking for students who could crunch numbers or ace a test.</p><p dir="ltr">They were looking for builders.</p><p dir="ltr">鈥淪how us what you鈥檝e done, not just where you鈥檝e worked,鈥 recruiter Libby Jones told students during Tesla Day on February 5. 鈥淲e don鈥檛 just want to see job titles. We want to know what problems you鈥檝e solved, what projects you鈥檝e taken ownership of, and how you鈥檝e pushed yourself to be better.鈥</p><p dir="ltr">That's what Kettering students already do every day. From day one, they鈥檙e thrown into a world where they鈥檙e expected to contribute, build, test, and improve. Through the University鈥檚 signature Co-op program, they step out of the classroom and into engineering teams tackling real-world problems. Whether it鈥檚 Formula SAE, Baja, autonomous systems, or electric vehicles, Kettering students don鈥檛 just theorize 鈥 they execute.</p><p dir="ltr">That鈥檚 exactly what Tesla is looking for.</p><p dir="ltr">"At Kettering, we don鈥檛 just set students up for jobs 鈥 we create opportunities for them to prove what they can do,鈥 said Enza Sleva, Kettering University's Chief Student Experience Officer. 鈥淥ur role is to get them in front of the right people, in the right places, with the right experiences to back them up. When Tesla comes looking for builders, we know our students are ready to show what they鈥檝e done."</p><p dir="ltr">One of the key themes of the visit was evidence of excellence 鈥 Tesla鈥檚 guiding principle for evaluating potential hires. It鈥檚 not about checking boxes on a resume; it鈥檚 about proving that a candidate has the drive, adaptability, and ingenuity to thrive in an environment that demands constant improvement.</p><p dir="ltr">Thad Ayres M鈥08, a Kettering alumnus and senior manager of semi service at Tesla, knows that expectation firsthand. 鈥淭he evidence of exceptional ability 鈥 that鈥檚 the most important requirement. As a hiring manager at Tesla, if you can鈥檛 answer that, I can鈥檛 answer that for you. You don鈥檛 go to the next round, whether it鈥檚 a resume review or an interview. You have to have an answer for that.鈥</p><p dir="ltr">During the visit, Tesla鈥檚 engineers shared stories of their career paths 鈥 some conventional, some anything but. One had spent 13 years in satellite communications before pivoting to electric trucks. Another moved from automation and robotics to factorywide production systems. What they all had in common was a hunger to solve problems, an ability to adapt quickly, and a willingness to dive into the unknown.</p><p dir="ltr">It鈥檚 that same mindset that fuels Kettering鈥檚 approach to education. The University produces more than graduates. It creates engineers, innovators, and leaders who can thrive in high-stakes environments where change is the only constant.</p><p dir="ltr">Tesla moves fast. Kettering students do, too. And for those ready to prove they can build, solve, and push the boundaries of what鈥檚 possible, the opportunities are there.</p></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-media-image field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__item"> <picture> <source srcset="/sites/default/files/styles/max_650x650/public/2025-02/Tesla%20Logo.webp?itok=D70Q38eT 1x" type="image/webp" width="555" height="553"> <source srcset="/sites/default/files/styles/max_650x650/public/2025-02/Tesla%20Logo.jpg?itok=D70Q38eT 1x" type="image/jpeg" width="555" height="553"> <img loading="lazy" srcset="/sites/default/files/styles/max_650x650/public/2025-02/Tesla%20Logo.jpg?itok=D70Q38eT 1x" width="555" height="553" src="/sites/default/files/styles/max_650x650/public/2025-02/Tesla%20Logo.jpg?itok=D70Q38eT" alt="Tesla Logo"> </picture> </div> Tue, 25 Feb 2025 14:48:50 +0000 rnorris 518 at Bulldog Preview Day /visit/bulldog-preview-day <span class="field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden">Bulldog Preview Day</span> <div class="field field--name-field-event-type field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/136" hreflang="en">Campus</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/134" hreflang="en">Campus Events</a></div> </div> <span class="field field--name-uid field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden"><span>eoboyle</span></span> <span class="field field--name-created field--type-created field--label-hidden"><time datetime="2025-01-08T12:59:09-05:00" title="Wednesday, January 8, 2025 - 12:59" class="datetime">Wed, 01/08/2025 - 12:59</time> </span> <div class="field field--name-field-date-range field--type-date-recur field--label-hidden field__item"> <div class="date-recur-date"><time datetime="2025-02-17T10:15:00Z" class="datetime">2025-02-17T10:15:00-0500</time> _<time datetime="2025-02-17T14:45:00Z" class="datetime">2025-02-17T14:45:00-0500</time> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-media field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__item"> <picture> <source srcset="/sites/default/files/styles/wide/public/2024-12/kettering-university-undergraduate-admissions-group-with-bulldog-mascot.webp?itok=pp08WLku 1x" type="image/webp" width="1090" height="727"> <source srcset="/sites/default/files/styles/wide/public/2024-12/kettering-university-undergraduate-admissions-group-with-bulldog-mascot.jpg?itok=pp08WLku 1x" type="image/jpeg" width="1090" height="727"> <img loading="lazy" srcset="/sites/default/files/styles/wide/public/2024-12/kettering-university-undergraduate-admissions-group-with-bulldog-mascot.jpg?itok=pp08WLku 1x" width="1090" height="727" src="/sites/default/files/styles/wide/public/2024-12/kettering-university-undergraduate-admissions-group-with-bulldog-mascot.jpg?itok=pp08WLku" alt="A group of Kettering students pose with the bulldog mascot in the Learning Commons"> </picture> </div> <div class="clearfix text-formatted field field--name-field-description field--type-text-long field--label-hidden field__item"><p>Looking for a more interactive university tour at Kettering?
